A Rambling Story
I had to take my little girls fingers away from her today. She is 4 months old and loves to suck on her fingers and they are beginning to get raw so I had to cover her hands up. Man she did not like that at all. She threw a fit and cried for quite some time so I just held her in my arms. As I was holding her and wiping her little tears from her eyes I started thinking about all the times in the future I maybe doing the same thing like when her best friend doesn't want to be friends anymore or when that guy she thought she loved turned out to be something different.
All these thoughts were running through my mind and I then started to smile because thankfully with my little girl she not only has me but she has an amazing daddy as well.
I do believe that mommies are great (since I am one) but daddies are just as great or even greater in the eyes of their daughter. A daughter will either have great confidence in herself and know she is loved and knows that she deserves to be loved or she will spend her life with no confidence and looking anywhere for love because she doesn't know that she is loved and doesn't know that she deserves to be loved all based on the kind of father she has.
I also believe that daddies play a very important role in being an image of Jesus to their children. More times than not a child will base their belief on Jesus from the way their father is with them. If a child has a great dad and again knows they are loved by their dad they will more than likely love Jesus, but if a child has a daddy who is absent or is in anyway abusive, the child may run from Jesus because they think Jesus is like their daddy. I know I did. I ran from Jesus for 21 years until I finally stopped running and it was the best thing I have ever done.
So if any of you reading this is a daddy make sure you tell your children you love them. Tell your son what an awesome man he is and tell your daughter what a gorgeous princess she is and give them a huge hug. Those simple things will do wonders for your children I promise.
